ABOUT ROC
In Memory
ROC was named after, and founded in memory of, Rafael Sandalo Blanchard, the late son of Cresly Sandalo (now Blanchard - a native of the Philippines) and Philippe Blanchard (a native of Canada), the ROC Founder. Rafael passed away at birth on 04 December 2021.
Logo
To Canadian native people, the butterfly symbolizes transformation, metamorphosis, beauty, balance and grace. The butterfly is often depicted in the Canadian Pacific Northwest Coast Native mythology as the companion, scout and spokesperson for the raven. The butterfly often helps the raven by leading it to food sources and creatures hiding from it too. Additionally, according to Filipino folklore, if a butterfly finds its way inside your home, it is believed to be a visitation from departed loved ones, a gentle reminder that they are watching over you from the afterlife.
From Cresly’s and Philippe’s point of views, they see Rafael, just like a butterfly, as being the soul of ROC and the companion of impoverished Filipino communities in their transformation, and via the assistance provided by ROC - transform into something that is beautiful, balanced and graceful.
As such, the butterfly was selected as the main component of the ROC logo to represent its soul, and the transformation ROC facilitates among its impoverished communities, generating beauty, balance and grace among them.
